Article Abstract
Mirror writing is "that variety of script which runs in an opposite direction to the normal, the individual letters also being reversed". Mirror writing may be transient or longlasting; affect single letters or characters, whole words or se ntences; and may be spontaneous or elicited. In Latin languages, mirror writing is usually written from right to left with the left hand. Curiously, individuals may be unaware of their own facility for mirror writing, and may have difficulty in reading it. Mirror writing may accompany neurological disease, but it is also produced by normal individuals. Consideration of underlying mechanisms needs to take into account the different circumstances in which mirror writing occurs.
